The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam tournament of the year and has been held every January since 1987 in Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city.
In 2018 the tournament starts on 15 January and ends on 28 January.
Qualifying starts on 10 January and continues until 13 January.

Historie
In November 1905 the first championship of Australia and New Zealand was held at the Warehouseman’s Cricket Ground. After New Zealand withdrew in 1922, the tournament was called australian championships.
1969 it was renamed the Australian Open.
Since 1972 the Australian Open has been held in Melbourne. At first it was played on grass in the Kooyong district.
In 1988 the tournament moved to its current home at Melbourne Park (formerly Flinders Park). Matches there were initially played on Rebound-Ace-Courts played; since 2008 the surface has been Plexicushion, a hard court made from a mixture of latex, rubber, Plexipave and plastic particles.
Spielort
The Center Court, named after former Australian tennis great Rod Laver, accommodates 14.570 spectators.
The venue's second-largest court, Hisense Arena, has 9.646 seats, while Margaret Court Arena has 7.500 seats.
Show Courts 2 and 3 each offer seating for 3,000 spectators.
Ballkinder
Ballkinder müssen zwischen be between 12 and 15 years old and can train year-round at http://www.tennis.com.au/learn/ballkids-officials-coaches-and-volunteers/ballkids apply for the tournament. In 2017, 380 ball children were selected from around 2.500 applications. Your chances are therefore not bad at all...
Bälle
Around 48.000 balls are used in Melbourne each year. The supplier is the American company Wilson.
Six balls are used during the five-minute warm-up and the first 7 games. They are then replaced after every 9 games.
Hawk-Eye
The Hawk-Eye-Technologie It is used on the five main courts mentioned above and on Courts 7 and 8. Each player may consult “Hawk-Eye” three times per set, with one additional option in a tiebreak.
