Italy's tennis women win the Fed Cup again
Italy won the Fed Cup for the third time. The defending champions defeated record winners the USA 3–1 and thereby won the repeat of last year’s final before it was over.
The Italian team featuring Francesca Schiavone first won the trophy in 2006 and has since reached the team competition's final five times.
The decisive point in San Diego was provided by Flavia Pennetta mit einem klaren 6:1 6:2-Erfolg über Coco Vandeweghe.
The 18-year-old had to step in for the weakened US team after the Williams sisters withdrew through injury.
