The US Open is the last of the year's four tennis Grand Slam tournaments and is played in New York at the "USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center" in Flushing Meadows, USA.

Historie
In 1881 the U.S. National Championships were first held for the men. In 1887 the women entered the competition.
Until 1914, the men's event was held in Newport and the women's event in Philadelphia.
1915 people moved to Queens, New York, and played there until 1977.
Until 1974 the US Open was played on grass, followed by 3 years on clay.
1978 ging es dann weiter nach Flushing Meadows, wo bis heute auf einem Hartplatzbelag (Deco Turf) gespielt wird.

In 1997 the largest tennis stadium, Arthur Ashe Stadium, was built. It seats 23,771 spectators and has been equipped with a retractable roof since 2016 (closes in 7 minutes).
The venue's second-largest stadium is Louis-Armstromg Stadium, accommodating 10.000 spectators; the Grandstand is situated behind it.

Ballkinder
Unlike the other Grand Slam tournaments, the event does not use only real ball children; teenagers and older adults also serve, with a minimum age of 14. The US Open manages with 80.
Bälle
Since 1978, Wilson balls have been used. During the tournament 60,000 balls are used.
