Wimbledon, also called the “Lawn Tennis Championships”, is the year’s third tennis Grand Slam. It takes place in Wimbledon, a district of London, and is the only Grand Slam tournament still played on grass.
2018 findet die Austragung der Lawn Tennis Championships vom 2. Juli bis 15. Juli statt.

Historie
Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. The first Lawn Tennis Championships began on 9 July 1877. The grounds were on Worple Road in Wimbledon.
Women's singles and men's doubles were introduced in 1884. Women's doubles and mixed doubles were added in 1913.
1922 the tennis complex on Church Road was opened, where tennis is still played today.
Spielort
The Center Court ist probably the most famous tennis court in the world, accommodating 14.979 spectators. Seit 2009 ist der Center Court mit einem Dach schließbar (dauert maximal 10 Minuten).
Court No. 1 accommodates 11.393 spectators. Play takes place on 18 courts at the venue, with another 22 practice courts at Aorangi Park and Southlands College.
Ballkinder
Around 250 ball children work at the venue each year. Of these, 160 are selected from new applicants and 90 return from previous years.
The average age is 15. Training for the ball children begins in February. In 1985 ball girls worked on Centre Court for the first time.
Bälle
Seit 1902 wird mit Bällen der Marke Slazenger gespielt. Ca. 54.000 Bälle kommen jedes Jahr zum Einsatz.
Hawk-Eye
Hawk-Eye has been used on the two main courts since 2006. In 2017 it was also used on courts 2, 3, 12 and 18, making 6 courts in total.

by train
U-Bahn Linie District Line bis Haltestelle Southfields. Then a 5-minute walk to the Wimbledon Park entrance (queue), or 15 minutes to the other courts (Gate 1)
