Caroline Wozniacki has the Australian Open against Simona Halep She won after 2:49 minutes, 7:6 (7:2), 3:6, 6:4. The Dane celebrated her first Grand Slam victory and also replaced Halep as number one. The 27-year-old returned to the top of the world rankings after six years; no other woman had previously achieved this.
Wozniacki converted her first match point in front of 15,000 spectators. In both her attempts in 2009 and 2014 at the US Open in New York she had fallen in the final each time. Halep, who in a dramatic semi-final threw Angelique Kerber out of the tournament had, by contrast, suffered her third defeat in a major final after the French Open in 2014 and 2017.
