Mona Barthel has already lost her opening match at the WTA tournament in Birmingham.

The 21-year-old from Bad Segeberg, who had received a bye into the second round, lost at her first grass-court tournament of the year to the Czech player Andrea Hlavackova with 6:7 (5:7), 2:6.

The No. 2 seed Sabine Lisicki failed at the first hurdle for the fourth time in a row.

Against the Polish player Urszula Radwanska the 22-year-old lost comfortably in straight sets in the second round, 3:6, 4:6.

In der ersten Runde mußte Lisicki did not have to play thanks to a bye.

This means no German women remain in this tournament, which has a prize fund of 220.000 dollars.
